B&T Associates Limited trading as Lumineux Lighting
Version 3.0 UK | Last updated 12 October 2026
Lumineux Lighting respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the LumiSmart mobile application (the “App”), which is designed to allow users to connect to, configure and control compatible Lumineux smart lighting products and systems.
1. Who we are
B&T Associates Limited, trading as Lumineux Lighting, provides LumiSmart. Company Number 01987654.
Registered office: Manby Business Park, Manby, Louth, Lincolnshire, LN11 8UT, United Kingdom.
For privacy-related enquiries, please contact us at sales@lumineux.co.uk or visit www.lumineux.co.uk.
For the purposes of applicable UK data protection legislation, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, B&T Associates Limited is the controller of personal data whose purposes and means of processing it determines through the App. Where a Customer determines the use of site personal data and we process it on that Customer’s behalf, the roles and required data-processing terms are set out in the relevant project contract.
This notice covers the LumiSmart mobile app. Additional processing through separately configured gateways, web portals or project services must be explained in the applicable service or project privacy notice. The LumiSmart User Agreement covers the permitted use of the Software and related contracted Services; it does not replace this privacy notice.
2. Information we process
Account information
The App does not require registration. When the App is first used, it automatically creates a unique account identifier for that installation, based on the device model and a random number. This identifier is stored in the cloud and is used to associate the user’s smart-lighting configurations and project data with the App installation, enabling data recovery if the App is reinstalled. We may also process a username or nickname where the user provides one.
Smart lighting and device information
The App may process information about compatible lighting products, controllers, gateways or other equipment, including device identifiers, device names, connection status, groups, scenes, schedules, settings and configuration information. This information is used to provide the lighting-control functionality requested by the user.
Bluetooth, nearby-device and local-network information
The App may use Bluetooth, nearby-device functionality, Wi-Fi or the local network to discover, connect to and communicate with compatible smart lighting equipment.
Technical information
The App may process technical information required for operation, security and troubleshooting, such as the App version, operating-system type and version, device model, MAC address, IP address, wireless connection and mobile network information, push notification identifier, usage data and log files. System and exception logs may be uploaded when the App is used.
3. Cloud storage of smart lighting data
LumiSmart stores the automatically generated account identifier and the associated smart-lighting configurations and project data in the cloud, so that this data can be recovered if the App is reinstalled. Lighting control and configuration are intended to take place locally between the App, the user’s mobile device and compatible lighting equipment or the user’s local network.
Users should be aware that information stored locally on their mobile device, controller or local network may remain there until it is deleted, reset or the relevant device or App data is removed.
4. How we use information
We may use information processed through the App to:
• create and maintain the automatically generated account identifier;
• associate smart-lighting configurations and project data with the App installation and enable data recovery;
• discover and connect to compatible Lumineux smart lighting equipment;
• allow users to configure and control lighting devices;
• create and apply lighting settings, groups, scenes or schedules;
• enable communication between the mobile device and compatible lighting equipment;
• maintain the security, reliability and functionality of the App;
• diagnose faults and provide technical support; and
• comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
5. App permissions
Depending on the user’s device, operating system and the functions being used, the App may request access to Bluetooth or Nearby Devices, the local network, Wi-Fi/network connectivity and notifications. A location-related permission may also be requested where the operating system requires it for Bluetooth or nearby-device discovery.
Where location permission is required for device discovery, LumiSmart does not use that permission for continuous tracking or to create a history of the user’s physical movements.
Permissions can normally be reviewed or changed through the settings on the user’s iOS or Android device. Disabling a required permission may prevent some App features from functioning correctly.
6. Legal bases for processing
Where we process personal data, our legal basis will depend on the purpose of the processing. This may include performance of a contract or taking steps requested by the user to provide the App and account functionality; our legitimate interests in securing, supporting and improving the App and compatible products; compliance with a legal obligation; or consent where consent is required by law.
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. Accepting the User Agreement does not itself give consent for every processing activity or waive your data-protection rights.
We may use genuinely anonymised statistics to support improvements to the App and compatible products. Information that can identify an individual, including pseudonymised identifiers, remains subject to data-protection law and this notice.
7. Sharing of information
We do not sell personal information.
We may share limited personal information with service providers or technology partners where reasonably necessary to host and store data, operate or maintain the App, provide technical support, or meet legal obligations. Where a third party processes personal data on our behalf, we require appropriate contractual and security safeguards.
We may also disclose information where required by law, regulation, court order or a lawful request from a competent authority.
8. International data transfers
Personal data processed through the App is stored on servers located in Ireland. If personal data is processed outside the United Kingdom, we will take appropriate steps to ensure that it receives the level of protection required by applicable UK data protection law, including the use of applicable adequacy regulations or appropriate contractual safeguards where required.
9. Data retention
The automatically generated account identifier and the associated data stored in the cloud are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the account and App, meet security requirements, resolve disputes and comply with applicable legal obligations.
Smart-lighting configuration information stored locally on a mobile device, controller or local network may remain until the user deletes or resets it, clears the App’s data, removes the relevant equipment or uninstalls the App. Uninstalling the App does not delete data stored in the cloud; deletion can be requested using the contact details in this Privacy Policy.
10. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against accidental or unlawful loss, misuse, alteration, disclosure or unauthorised access.
No electronic system, wireless communication method or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should also protect their mobile devices, passwords, Wi-Fi networks and connected lighting equipment against unauthorised access.
11. Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, users may have rights under UK data protection law to request access to their personal data, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion, request restriction of processing, object to certain processing, request data portability where applicable, and withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
Requests can be made using the contact details in section 16. For the automatically generated app identifier, provide your device model and approximate date of last app use to help us locate the relevant data. These details may not uniquely identify an installation, so we may request the generated identifier or other proportionate verification information where necessary. Do not send passwords. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s independent data protection regulator, at www.ico.org.uk.
12. Children’s privacy
LumiSmart is intended for authorised commercial and building-management use and is not designed for children. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal data from children where it is not necessary to provide the App.
13. Third-party services
The App may rely on operating-system functionality or technology supplied by third parties, including Apple, Google and device or networking technology providers. Those organisations may process information independently under their own privacy policies and terms.
14. Apple App Store and Google Play
When the App is downloaded or used through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, Apple or Google may independently process information relating to the download, device, store account or use of their services. Such processing is controlled by Apple or Google and is subject to their respective privacy policies and terms.
15. Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the App, our practices, technology or legal requirements. The latest version will show an updated “Last updated” date. Where appropriate, significant changes may also be communicated through the App or another suitable method.
